[ARTICLE] Billboard’s 25 Top Viewed 2014 K-Pop Videos in America – PSY, 2NE1, GDxTaeyang, AkMu

From PSY and Snoop to a slew of girl and boy bands, here’s what visuals got top U.S. viewership on YouTube this year.

With 2014 officially in the books — and K-pop performing better on the charts than ever — we now take a look at the videos that earned the most views in America.Billboard can exclusively reveal the Top 25 K-pop videos with the most views in America, according to YouTube.

Just like the 2013 ranking, the indomitable PSY takes the top slot with his latest hit. “Hangover” takes No. 1 while a slew of familiar faces and a few newcomers join him at the top.

EXO, who Billboard eyed as an artist to watch for big Stateside moves in 2014, proved to be the top group that captivated U.S. fans. The Korean version of the band’s “Overdose,” performed by EXO-K, ranks No. 2 on the list while the Chinese version, by EXO-M, is the 24th. EXO did not release new music as the full group this year.

The top six slots are controlled by acts under labels YG Entertainment (housing PSY, G-Dragon, 2NE1 and Taeyang) and SM Entertainment (EXO, Girls’ Generation) while HyunA (representing Cube Entertainment) breaks the pattern at No. 7.

Newcomer band HIGH4 had a huge hit on the K-Pop Hot 100 and lands the highest entry for a new group with their IU collaboration “Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms.” Fellow newbies Akdong Musician and GOT7, the latter with two entries, also bow while SHINee member Taemin proves that his solo debut was a success with an entry in the Top 20.

Notably, girl groups rose in popularity on this year’s list. While the 2013 ranking only saw female groups make up 20 percent of the top-viewed vids, this year they represent 36. And while boy bands represented 40 percent of 2013’s list, this year male groups only account for 28.
